Michigan City

A city in the Chicago area

Michigan City, an Indiana lakeshore city about an hour from Chicago, carries a fair amount of live-music activity spread across breweries, outdoor stages, and casino venues. Zorn Brew Works Co. occupies the former P.H. Zorn Brewery Complex, which began brewing operations in 1871 and ran through Prohibition until 1938. In 2016 the buildings were renovated and brewing resumed on the 9th & York St property in Michigan City's Elston Grove neighborhood. Zorn books live music four nights a week year-round, with a weekly headliner slot on Tuesdays, an open-mic on Wednesdays, and live bands on Fridays and Saturdays. Music is featured in the outdoor space called The Backyard at Zorn, with a range of free concerts and tribute bands. The taproom pours 24+ house craft beers, and the beer garden includes a dog-friendly patio with fire pits. The venue has a reported capacity of 450. Beyond Zorn, Live at the Lakefront is presented at the Millennium Plaza Bandstand overlooking Lake Michigan. Michigan City Oktoberfest, held over Labor Day weekend, features more than 50 live entertainment acts on three stages.
