MONIQUE RENÉE, a South Central Los Angeles native, has been singing since age six and embodies true rhythm-and-blues prowess. Influenced by Teena Marie, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and Anita Baker, her voice blends soulful warmth with modern edge. By 18 she was lighting up local stages and touring the Far East, then returning as the lead vocalist for former Mercury Records group Female. They hit MTV’s The Real World, recorded I Wish I Didn’t Need You No More with jazz icon Dave Koz, and contributed to the Panther soundtrack with Aretha Franklin’s Natural Woman. They also joined the Freedom project with artists like TLC, SWV, and Xscape, produced by Dallas Austin. Her studio résumé spans D’Wayne Wiggins, Rose Royce, Shanice, and Too $hort, among others. Now a dynamic solo artist, MONIQUE RENÉE delivers a stellar Teena Marie tribute as she headlines top Southern California venues— selling out Catalina Jazz Club, Miracle Theater, and more! She co headlined Taste of Soul 2025 and will share the stage with Frankie Beverly and Maze tribute band, Durti-Ryce featuring Deron, with special guest Jubu, at the Newport Jazz Festival in May 2026, opening for Ledisi.
