Funkadesi @ Glenwood Avenue Arts Fest

Funkadesi play a vibrant style of music, which is as diverse as the musical and cultural backgrounds of its ten members. Hailing from Africa, Jamaica, America, Europe and India they formed in Chicago with the idea of improvising Indian melodic and rythmic themes over reggae/funk grooves. The end result is a distinctive blend of sound which is still growing and evolving. The band won two Chicago Music Awards for their contribution to world music quickly after forming, and released a self-titled EP. This was followed with “Uncut Roots”, their full-length debut, in 2000, and their second album “It’s About time” came out in 2003. Their third release "Yo Baba" came out in 2008.

Owleater is a Chicago-based music group that was formed in order to bring awareness and education to the public regarding lives and points of view of clowns, demons, children, and murderers. Including, but not limited to, clowns born demons and children born murderers. Murderers that are clowns and children that are demons.

Jan King gets it done. Whether it’s flying in the face of a dismissive boyfriend or acquaintance who didn’t take seriously her determination to become the crackerjack guitar player she is – she put that same determination to work to become an expert auto mechanic inspired by the same kind of derisive dismissal – or to change the world by teaching guitar and attitude to children, many of them economically and otherwise challenged or disadvantaged, in and around the Chicago area. She has all kinds of students but, also a former board member for Girls Rock! Chicago, she takes a special pride in the ones with the biggest obstacles to overcome, particularly when one of those obstacles is being a female in the male-dominated world of guitar playing, an attitude that, with so much evidence to dispute it, would be ridiculously outdated even if was ever the least bit valid at all. House music, or simply house, is a type of electronic dance music which is characterized by a repetitive four-on-the-floor beat and a typical tempo of 115–130 beats per minute. It was created in Chicago by DJs and music producers from the city's queer Black underground club culture and evolved slowly in the early/mid 1980s as DJs began altering disco songs to give them a more mechanical beat. By early 1988, house became mainstream and supplanted the typical '80s music beat.
