Winded City is an indie rock band formed in 2010 by guitarist and vocalist Joey Rocco, lead guitarist Marc DeMory, bassist Michael Krunis, and drummer Collin Thomas in the greater La Grange area in the southwest suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. After releasing a series of demo recordings completed in DeMory’s basement under the band name “Free Radical”, the band began to play a series of successful shows in the Chicago underground music scene including performances at Beat Kitchen and multiple concerts at the famous Metro Chicago. Their most recent performance at the Metro in support of psych-blues group Blue Dream opened up the band to a more widespread audience throughout the greater Chicago area.
In more recent years, the band has expanded to performing shows in both Michigan and Indiana, most notably at Indiana University’s annual Nutella Fest concert and for Bloomington, IN-based record label and concert promoter Winspear Records. The group’s announcement to change their name to Winded City came in conjunction with the April 2015 release of their official studio and self-titled debut EP. The self-released Winded City EP was recorded near the end of 2014 at Echo Park Studios, with local musician Mark Edlin signed on as producer. The band’s lineup remains consistent with that when it was founded, with Rocco performing rhythm guitar and lead vocals, DeMory playing lead guitar, Krunis on bass, and Thomas drumming.
