Cordell Lowery aka DJ Corey Grand is a true native of Cleveland, OH, born and raised in this fair city.
Having a strong interest in music since he was 8 years old, he started off by snatching his mother’s records while she was at work during second shift.
“Basically my mom would leave, and the second I heard the car pull away, I would take her records and scratch them up on her turntable.”
In addition to his late night practice sessions, Corey begun to model his turntablist style by watching the earlier DMC battles on vhs tape. Priding himself on being a historian of his craft, has led Corey to be one of the midwest’s fastest rising talents.
Heavily influenced by DJ’s and producers such as At-Trak, Z-Trip, Jazzy Jeff, Roc Raida, Flying Lotus and Nosaj Thing, Corey ventured into producing which led to the releases of his original creations on Underneath and Cold Wax EP
Now entering his 4th year as a professional DJ / producer, Corey has had projects featured on 2dopeboys, Livemixtapes, Kevin Nottingham, Leak Jones, Radio Big Boy, Fact Mag, among others.
As well, Corey Grand has been nominated for an Ohio Hip Hop Award in 2011 for Best New DJ and won Scene Magazine’s Best DJ award in 2013. He was also a top finalist in the 2012 Complex/McDonalds flavor battle and placed 2nd in Red Bull’s 3Style DJ competition.
