John Zorn is an American composer, conductor, producer, arranger and saxophonist who "deliberately resists category". Zorn's avant-garde compositions and experimental improvisations meld jazz, rock, hardcore, classical, contemporary, surf, metal, soundtrack, ambient, Jewish and world music performed by "often unexpected groups of players.. getting startling, unrepeatable results". Rolling Stone noted that "[alt]hough Zorn has operated almost entirely outside the mainstream, he's gradually asserted himself as one of the most influential musicians of our time".

There are 2 bands called Knotwork: 1) Knotwork is a folk project formed by Michael Moynihan, Annabel Lee (both members of Blood Axis) and Don Schabner. Intertwining knotwork patterns run throughout ancient Celtic, Norse, and Anglo-Saxon art and ornament, but they are also reflected in traditional poetry and music. In order to explore this musical aspect, Annabel Lee (fiddle) and Michael Moynihan (bodhrán drum, voice) established the acoustic project Knotwork in the mid-1990s. They were soon joined by Don Schabner, a master of multifaceted and driving guitar work. Together these three musicians play songs and tunes of life, death, and struggle from Europe and the colonies. Rustic yet refined, Knotwork creates a symmetry between then and now, Old World and New. The three-song EP “3 x 3” is the group’s first release. 2) Knotwork was a short-lived emo band from PA. Knotwork's members were Beau Brendley (Who also played in Miles to Failure, Kill the man who Questions, R.A.M.B.O., the curse), Jon Pepe (i hate you), Steve Ferrell (kid dynamite) and Vince Maskie. While the earlier Knotwork recordings (circa 92-93) were more influenced by early 1990's straight edge hardcore bands like face value and encounter, the recording of the 7" shows a more mature and emotional sound, not unlike bands like strictly ballroom or embassy. They released a Self-Titled cassette in 1993 and a Self-Titled 7" on Kids Dream Records (#003) in 1995.
