Shawano

The Mielke Arts Center is managed by the non-profit Shawano County Arts Council and sits inside Mielke Park on Airport Road. The Mielke Family Foundation donated funds to build the center, a 250-seat black-box theater, with ground-breaking in 1975. Evening concerts take place inside the black-box theater, while daytime programs spread across multiple stages under tents in the park's clearings. The center's signature music event is the annual Shawano Folk Music Festival: since 1979, Mielke Park has been the home of the Shawano Folk Music Festival, with folk, acoustic, Americana, and Celtic acts on the bill. The Arts Council also sponsors Box in the Wood Theatre Guild productions and the Shawano Arts and Crafts Fair. For live music beyond the Arts Center, the city runs a summer Thursday-night concert series at Franklin Park, featuring a different band each week with free admission.
