Waverly

Waverly's live-music activity centers on Kohlmann Park, a riverside green space that holds the Shades of Rhythm Amphitheater. The amphitheater is the result of an award-winning design by two Iowa State University architecture students; its curved ribs of colored, recycled glass rise to 16 feet behind an elevated stage and are lit at night with changing colors. The Concerts in Kohlmann summer series brings the Waverly Municipal Band and a variety of local acts to the park each Thursday evening in June and July. The Waverly Chamber of Commerce organizes the free, family-friendly series. Typical evenings pair a local opener, such as the duo Phil & Travis, known for their harmonies across classic rock, country, and pop, with the municipal band. The park also hosts the annual Art Walk in May, when artists from Iowa and surrounding states line the Cedar River and live music runs alongside food vendors and art activities. Beyond its regular programming, Waverly has hosted larger events including the Gentlemen of the Road Concert Tour featuring Mumford and Sons.
