The 501 Blues Club on IL-160 is Highland's dedicated live-music spot, a bar-and-grill where Wednesday nights bring a bluegrass open mic and Thursdays lean toward rock and blues. Blues jam nights draw musicians of all kinds, with a house band reported to cover country, heavy metal, and just about anything in between. Most events carry no cover charge. Beyond the club, the city runs free live music on the Downtown Square every Thursday evening from 7 to 9 pm throughout the summer, and the Municipal Band performs free Friday-night concerts on the Square from mid-June through mid-August. The annual Schweizerfest each June, Highland's homecoming celebrating its Swiss heritage, adds entertainment to the calendar as well. For regular indoor live music any night of the week, though, the 501 Blues Club is where Highland's scene concentrates.
