Northfield
A city in the Minneapolis & St. Paul area
Northfield's live-music life is shaped by its two colleges and a compact downtown about 35 miles south of the Twin Cities. The Lion's Pause is a student-run kitchen and performance venue on the campus of St. Olaf College, open during the day as a lounge and after dark for shows and dances. It sits on the first floor of Buntrock Commons and hosts a dedicated performance space called the Mane Stage. Because it is a campus venue, programming runs on the academic calendar and skews toward student-organized events. Beyond the St. Olaf campus, Friends of Downtown Northfield runs a Third Thursdays summer concert series on the third Thursdays of July, August, and September. Local businesses including Imminent Brewing and the Contented Cow also regularly host live music. The Grand Event Center holds live music every Thursday night, with the first Thursday of each month reserved for open-mic night.
