Ganja White Night @ The Armory

Ganja White Night is a dubstep live act coming from Mons, Belgium. Growing up in the humble town of Mons Belgium, the duo was in a way sheltered from the music industry of the United States allowing them to create a honest & unique sound of their own. With their musical roots ranging from early UK bass sounds to the reggae vibes, Ganja White Night has twisted together their influences and spit out something truly fresh. Their two first tracks Strawberry Cough and Purple Star were the starting point for them to develop a style made of sharp beats, explosive basses and tricky space melodies. They created their own digital label named SubCarbon in 2009 to get to the next level and to get heard by the whole wide world. They toured live across Europe, and had their first USA tour in February 2013. The group consists of Benjamin Bayeul, aka Bamby who manages Sound Design, Arrangement, Lead and Vocal, Erwan Charlie Dodson, aka R-One or Evasive Mumbling who deals with Rhythmic and Machine. The third member until January 2012 was François Volral, aka LebelgeElectrod who was in charge of Bass and Sound Design, Arrangements, Filtering and Graphics. In June, 2016, they introduced their mascot "Mr. Wobble" with the debut of Wobble Master & LFO Requiem full animated music videos in 2016, The music video for "Wobble Master" from the EP was created by the popular Belgian street artist Ebo. Since then the story of Mr Wobble was birthed. Drawing similarities to the visual aspect of the Gorrilaz and their unique style of telling a story through their music, the duo plans to continue exploring their own universe. After a near decade deep discography, Ganja White Night struck a cord with their Mr Wobble LP release cementing their iconic Wobble sound. Centered around the idea of creating their own mini universe, the duo teamed up with Ebo to bring their concepts & vision alive. Only time will tell how big this universe is!

There are at least eleven "Contra's", they will all be dealt with below. 1. Contra was a hardcore/punk band from Long Island, New York. They formed around 1997/98 and at the time were Jon Berg, Steve Andolfo, Anthony Greco, and Craig Hughes. They toured a few times, released a couple of records on Traffic Violation records, and defined what hardcore and punk was about for a lot of people on Long Island for a long time. They acquired other members throughout their time, sharing members with bands like Uplift, Fellow Project, The Insurgent, and probably a few others. They are broken up for good. 2. Contra is a Hardcore-Metal band, formed in 2004 in Ventura, California, USA. Combining brutal breakdowns, headspinning circle pits, and ground shaking two step. The band is known for their uncompromising violent shows, and crowd abuse. The band has built itself on a strong D.I.Y. work ethic since their early development. Band members include BJ Ordonez (vocalist), Kevin Brooks(guitar), Luke Matsuk (guitar), and Richard Urbina (bass). On August 30th, 2005, the band released their first EP, This Machine Kills, on Mediaskare/Koch Records which was produced by Logan Mader (Soulfly/Machinehead). 3. Contra is also an artist from the Dtrash label (www.dtrashrecords.com). Contra's first release was in Februari 2001, with his album "Nemesis Enforcer", many were to follow. Later on Contra also started his own sub-label within the Dtrash community, located at contra.dtrashrecords.com What kind of music can you expect from Contra? From psycho breakcore to strange apocalyptical ambience, everything's there. Hard to put into words, just how he, himself, likes it. There is another "Contra" based in Portsmouth in the UK (http://www.myspace.com/wearecontra). Formed in February 2000, Contra's explosive live performances, coupled with clever songwriting and an intense passion for the music they create, has led to a string of sellout shows across the South. Within months of getting together they were blowing the crowd away in the finals of the Battle of the Bands at Portsmouths Wedgewood Rooms, following up by supporting acts such as Tribute to Nothing and My Deaf Audio (both on Lockjaw Records), along with Miss Black America, Scenes and Five Knuckle. Having played support slots on the Metal Hammer Tour, their exciting and energetic live shows regularly see crowds fighting to get their hands on the latest demo, Illuminati, ensuring that not a single copy is left behind at the end of the night. And their popularity is spreading fast. The Highbury Garage, The Water Rats, 333 Bar, Belushi's, Hayfield, Northampton Roadmenders and McClusky's are just a few of the venues to have played host to Contra's fierce and fiery act. And it doesn't stop there. Having honed their skills at the British Academy of New Music they found themselves rocking the crowd at Leicester's Demontford Hall at the National Festival of New Music just two years ago, the two-hundred strong audience reeling with wonder at the sheer force of yet another striking performance. Radio, too, has found their sound increasingly popular. Since their debut on Radio One they can be heard all over the country on a host of University and Union stations, as well as having stolen airtime on Total Rock Radio last year. Their latest sellout gigs include support slots with Million Dead and Sparta in October. To quote one awestruck fan. "You come to these things expecting the support to be crap. In [Contra's] case, they played better than [the band I came to see]. I'll definitely be coming to see them again." So, with their fanbase growing at an exponential rate, surely it won't be long before they score the record deal they so badly deserve? Keep listening, Contra's big break is just around the corner. 5. Contra is a band from Poland, formed in 1995 (http://www.contra.xtd.pl/). They play mix of rock, funk, hip-hop, trip-hop, jungle, reggae, core, dub, trance, techno. They released an album in 2003 - "Zmienne nastroje rytmów nowoczesnych". 6. Contra from Sweden consists of Johannes Tsagarakis and Karl Risenfors who produce mainly techno and house in various forms. Inspired by minimalism, they produce techno and house with focus on long breakdowns and buildups. As for their musical philosophy, even the smallest musical units are important in their arrangements. During 2008 they have written tunes such as "Strato", the minimalistic "S.P.Q.R." and "Leader", More recently the fellas have produced tunes called "Lowrises", "Towers" and "Re Up". They consisted of Peimon Abdollahian on Guitar and Vocals, Jeff Golay on guitar, Ravi Vasudevan on drums and Tim Welch on bass. They released "We Must Attack Aggressively" and disbanded shortly after. 8. Contra (Margus Konnula) is an Estonian poet, writer and stage-artist, known for his witty texts and use of Võro language. 9. Contra was also a diy, underground, punk rock band from Chicago, sometime during the early 2000's. The percussion section of the band consisted of Seth Sher of The Coughs banging on pots and pans. Dave Fried sang vocals and Calvin Chaos played guitar. The band is now defunct. 10. A stoner metal band from Cleveland, Ohio founded by former members of Sofa King Killer and Fistula. 11. Çağdaş Terzi (born 23 October 1989), better known by his stage name Contra, is a Turkish rapper and songwriter. He began his musical career with a single named "Ölü". In 2017 he released another single named "Ters Yön", however its beat was the same as Aynur Aydın's single "Bi' Dakika" and the song was removed from all digital platforms, including YouTube. In 2019 he released his new single, titled "Zebani", in which he criticized journalist Yılmaz Özdil. Bandcamp

Nitepunk, real name Lasha Mamulashvili, i a Georgia born, US based electronic music producer. At the beginning of his expedition into dance music, the producer was integral to the rave scene in the country of Georgia and he had to work numerous jobs in the United States to support his passion for music. His entry into the scene started with him dancing as a teenager. Mamulashvili began dancing when he was three years old, specializing in the national style of Georgian dance. When he was 11 years old, he became inspired by street dance and hip-hop. Eventually, Hollywood actor and dancer Robert Hoffman, known for his work in the “Step Up 2: The Streets” movie, saw his dancing videos and bought one of his songs that he grooved to. Mamulashvili capitalized on this as it was a massive deal in his country, and he used this opportunity to support the dance music scene in Georgia. His events were “nasty, sweaty raves” in lounges and abandoned places, such as an empty pool hall. “Me being exposed to these dance movies completely changed my world,” he says. “The music selection, the style…everything was so cool to me. I wanted to be around something like this, especially growing up in a post-Soviet country. Everything's mostly gray there, and those things were my escape. I wanted to create that reality around me.” Later on, he moved to New York on a tourist visa but had to scramble for places to live and afford food, with the artist saying it was a “brutal” time and it was difficult to be in a new country without his friends and family. His main idea for coming to the United States was to be surrounded by creative and like-minded people. To stay in the country, he worked numerous jobs and eventually got his green card in 2016 when he was 21 years old. Stashed up in Brooklyn as a completely unknown artist, a whole new chapter began as Nitepunk. Fundamentally it was a level up, but ostensibly it might not have seemed that way for a while. Lasha was (and still is) a superstar in Georgia. But he didn’t want superstar. He wanted be part of a larger creative movement where his future had unlimited creative potential. Karl Joseph, known professionally as Sir Spyro, is a British grime record producer, DJ, radio personality and label manager from East London. He was a Rinse FM resident for twelve years between 2005 and 2017, and since then has presented BBC Radio 1Xtra's Grime Show. He is a former member of grime crews Kamikaze, Aftershock and Ruff Sqwad, and has produced numerous hits including Stormzy's 2017 single "Big for Your Boots", which reached number six on the UK Singles Chart, and a remix of Ed Sheeran's 2019 single "Take Me Back to London" featuring Stormzy, Jaykae and Aitch, the release of which sent the song to number one in the UK.

Martin, aka XaeboR , is a Florida based Dubstep producer who solidified his name in the game with his own unique style of Wobbly & Riddim Dubstep - Having released EPs & Singles on Buygore Records, Never Say Die: Black Label, Subcarbon Records & Disciple Round Table. XaeboR has done Official remixes for ATLiens, Franky Nuts/Lifecycle & Midnight Tyrannosaurus, along with collaborations featuring Chibs, Samplifire, & Subtronics - Receiving support from the likes of Borgore, Doctor P, Excision, Flux Pavilion, Ganja White Night, GRiZ, NGHTMARE, Rusko, SkisM, SVDDEN DEATH, & more.

Operating out of Raleigh, NC, Tyler Criso, otherwise just known as Criso, is an explosive artist specializing in dubstep, drum & bass, halftime and garage. With notable headline performances under his belt in the North & South Carolina regions, support for artists like Ternio Sound, Tape B, Emalkay, Coki, and more, Criso has garnered the attention of the dubstep community quickly and defiantly. Criso’s sound can be notably received as powerful in the lows, and bright in the highs. With quick, crisp percussion and thick sub frequencies, he has developed a fresh take on true dubstep and what it means in the modern day world. Inspiration can be found from head honchos Kursa, Monty, Wras, and Chee. Criso’s debut EP, titled Emerge, has seen an explosive reaction, with the lead track, Foolery, gaining upwards of 40k+ plays across all platforms to date.

Distinct Motive, real name Phil Shore, is a Canadian dubstep producer/DJ creating explorative, visceral bass music for the masses. Originally a duo formed in 2013 with Josh Bates, the project now primarily represents Shore’s solo, 140-bpm deep dubstep style. He quickly made a name for himself with his dark and minimal production style. Paying homage to the early aesthetic of dubstep while building a sound unique unto himself, he has put his respective hometown of Toronto on the map in international bass music circles, advocating for the original, dub-influenced side of dubstep to elated audiences across North America and Europe.

Ramesh Sippy is an Indian film director, actor and producer in Hindi cinema. He is particularly known for being the director of Sholay (1975), often regarded as one of the most influential films ever made in India. The Government of India honoured him with Padma Shri in 2013. In 2017, he founded the Ramesh Sippy Academy of Cinema & Entertainment in Mumbai.
