Alpharetta
About 20 miles north of Atlanta, Alpharetta covers opposite ends of the live-music spectrum. Ameris Bank Amphitheatre is a 12,000-capacity outdoor venue operated by Live Nation, pulling the biggest names in country, rock, and top 40 from April through October. Recent bookings have ranged from Tim McGraw and Dan + Shay to Mötley Crüe, BABYMETAL, and Hayley Williams, making it the primary stop for major touring acts in North Atlanta. At the other end of the scale, The Velvet Note is a purpose-built listening room with just 40 seats, where there isn't a bad seat in the house. An open mic jam runs every Thursday night and is billed as Georgia's longest-running. Shows run Friday through Sunday nights. The club serves food on wooden plates to cut noise and enhance the listening experience. Together, the two venues give Alpharetta a live-music range that few suburbs can match.
