Canton

The Canton Theatre is a historic venue in downtown Canton with more than a century of history, dating to 1911 when it opened with silent films and magic lantern slide presentations. After falling into disrepair in the 1980s, the city of Canton acquired it in 1997 and restored it to its 1930s grandeur. Since becoming a non-profit theatre in 2003, it has provided patrons with theatrical and musical productions. On the music side, the theatre hosts live music alongside local and traveling theatrical productions, comedy, and film screenings. Recent bookings have included tribute acts and original performances: a Beatles tribute show and a grunge-unplugged concert are among recent events, and the venue also hosts open-mic nights under its Canton City Limits series. The room is described as cozy and intimate with a charming vintage aesthetic, making it a different kind of stop from the bars and restaurants that fill out the rest of Canton's weeknight and weekend music calendar.
