Decatur holds its own as a live-music city for its size, with venues ranging from a major outdoor amphitheater to a university concert hall to a string of bars and craft breweries. Devon Lakeshore Amphitheater sits in historic Nelson Park with lakefront views and is an amphitheater with a capacity of 4,000. Its calendar runs heavy on country and rock, with acts like Rodney Atkins and Russell Dickerson alongside tribute shows. The calendar also takes in movies, comedians, and other entertainment beyond music. Kirkland Fine Arts Center, on Millikin University's campus, serves as a cultural anchor for the region, hosting both professional touring groups and up-and-coming talent. The 1,902-seat auditorium also houses music and choral facilities, lecture halls, and art galleries. Past performers have included Ray Charles, Little Richard, and Sara Bareilles. The Lincoln Square Theatre, dating to 1916, is another downtown option for ticketed shows. On the brewery and bar side, Decatur Brew Works, Golden Fox Brewing, and Door 4 Brewing are the city's three craft breweries, all of which host live music. Golden Fox runs frequent free shows, while Biggens Bar & Billiards and Lock Stock & Barrel are among the bars booking bands. Sliderz, JB's Hideout, and Rocco's also appear regularly on local concert listings. Rock Springs Nature Center occasionally draws live music to its outdoor surroundings as well.
