Pawnee
Pawnee is a small Sangamon County village of about 2,700 people, roughly 20 minutes south of Springfield on I-55. Its live-music options are few but real. Locals Bar & Restaurant, on the town square in a building with roots as a late-1800s opera house, is the most active spot: it books bands regularly, with acts such as Hollow Creek, Hat Trick, Lick Creek, Storm Front, and singer-songwriter Avery Kern cycling through on weekends. The bar also runs a beer garden where bands perform alongside a broad drink selection. Oak Hills Country Club and Pickles Package & Pub round out the three venues in town. For a village this size, having three spots that host live music at all puts Pawnee a step above many comparably small Central Illinois communities.
