"As one cuts through the smoke and mirrors of thoughtless, lifeless, and heartless hardcore you will find a beacon of light coming from the Gem City of Erie Pennsylvania. That beacon of light is the band of brothers known as Smoke and Mirrors.
In 2007, during a typical harsh Erie, Pa winter, five hardcore punk veterans of the Lake Effect hardcore scene united to form a not so typical band now known as Smoke and Mirrors. Boasting a combined dedication of nearly 100 years to the Erie hardcore punk music scene and serving time in such bands as Brothers Keeper, Shockwave, and Problem Solver Revolver, S&M formed a band with hardcore music pouring through its veins. Lead by Dave Vogt (vocals) and backed by EMS (bass/vocals), Jon Molar (guitar), Joe Nolan (guitar), and Pat Bolla (drums) S&M have taken Erie, Pa and the surrounding areas by storm with a groovy and energetic sound filled with passion and heart.
Smoke and Mirrors started out fast in 2007, recording six songs at More Sound in Rochester, NY in early 2008 and knocking out another 3 tracks in late 2008, all of which received a great response throughout the local area. The band was also mentioned and photographed in an issue of nationally seen heavy music magazine Revolver before they had even played a show! With a bag of tricks and songs in hand S&M spent much of 2007 and all of 2008 taking their traveling side show on the road hitting up the likes of Huntington, WV; Lexington, KY; Pittsburgh, Pa; Toronto, Canada; Johnstown, Pa; St. Albans, WV; and many other stops along the East Coast and Mid West. During these travels Smoke and Mirrors has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with some of hardcore&8217;s finest such as Madball, Bane, Reign Supreme, Advent, Have Heart, Die Young, Pound For Pound, War of Ages, Jesus Wept, Where it Ends, Steel Nation, Heavy Hearted and many, many more.
Heading into 2009 Smoke and Mirrors is hard at work playing out, writing new music, and developing the most amazing illusions man has ever seen. With the backing of a record label with the same passion and energy for hardcore music and its message, 2009 is sure to be another breakthrough year for Smoke and Mirrors, followed by many years to come."
