Naperville

A suburb in the Chicago area

Wentz Concert Hall & Fine Arts Center, opened in 2008 on the campus of North Central College, anchors the formal end of the scene with a "shoebox"-shaped, 617-seat room engineered for exceptional acoustics. It has hosted classical performers including Yo-Yo Ma, jazz legends Herbie Hancock and Ramsey Lewis, and contemporary acts like Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, and serves as the west suburban home of the Chicago Sinfonietta and the DuPage Symphony Orchestra. Downtown's bar-and-club circuit runs a different tempo. Frankie's Blue Room on Chicago Avenue is the downtown area's premier live music club, with a stage for rotating blues, jazz, rock, and funk acts, a full bar, and a rooftop patio. Dance lessons run on the elevated floor, with swing and salsa on regular weekly nights. Quigley's Irish Pub books live music every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 8 p.m., and hosts traditional Irish sessions on the first and third Wednesdays. Potter's Place (with its Two-Nine Martini Lounge) runs live music Thursday through Sunday. Sullivan's Steakhouse adds live music on Friday and Saturday evenings from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Lennon's features DJ sets Thursday through Saturday on the first floor and live bands in its second-floor lounge on select Fridays and Saturdays. The result is a walkable downtown strip where several rooms run original and cover acts on the same nights, supplemented by craft-brewery and wine-bar stages at venues like Solemn Oath Brewery, Go Brewing, and SixtyFour Wine Bar & Kitchen.
