An Evening with Sam Bush
Bluegrass
Maquoketa's live music story is largely defined by Codfish Hollow Barnstormers, a converted 1954 barn on a farm just outside town. Opened as a concert site in 2009, the barn has been converted into a rustic indoor arena for live shows. It primarily hosts national touring indie, folk, and Americana acts alongside local favorites, and acts like Counting Crows, Norah Jones, and Dinosaur Jr. have stopped by. The long wooden barn holds crowds of up to 500, with hay bales as benches inside; outside, a fire pit, food trucks, and Iowa-focused beer stands round out the experience. Downtown, Maquoketa Brewing is a family-friendly taproom in a historic building on S. Main St., offering locally crafted beer, Iowa ciders, and wine, with frequent live music, open mic nights, and other events. Shows at the brewery are typically free and open to the public. The Ohnward Fine Arts Center rounds out the city's options, offering a more formal performing arts setting for concerts and stage productions.
