Millwork District
The Millwork District covers 11 city blocks and sits between Dubuque's downtown core and the Mississippi River, a former center of regional economic activity that sat vacant for decades before being redeveloped. Its main live-music anchor is Smokestack. Smokestack occupies a renovated historic warehouse and holds the area's only public rooftops. The club runs across four levels, with a main stage on the first floor, a second-floor art gallery, and rooftop views. Programming includes a free Thursday open mic, Friday concerts featuring touring and local bands, and Saturday warehouse and dance parties, with Latin Nights on the first and third Saturdays. Other Wednesday nights are reserved for a blues jam. Capacity is listed at 125 and the venue is 21-plus. Note: as of the time of writing, the Smokestack building appears to be listed for sale, so confirming current programming before visiting is advisable.
