Scales Mound
Council Hill Station sits on the east fork of the Galena River in a complex of historic 1850s buildings: a general store and railway station, a ruined woolen mill, a barn, and a silo. Today it is a bar and music venue with 90-plus beers and live music year-round, known for its picnic basket concerts on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Other regular programming includes country breakfasts on Saturday mornings and summer barn dances on weekend afternoons, with live music running Friday through Sunday. Music at the venue is acoustic. Live music turns up in both the station and the barn. A converted milking barn serves as an additional event space, and in-house musicians are available for on-demand concerts. The area around Scales Mound has little other dedicated live-music infrastructure, making Council Hill Station the primary draw for anyone seeking live music in this rural corner of Jo Daviess County.
