Grand Rapids
Grand Rapids is a small Ohio town of about 932 residents, but it punches above its size for live music. The area draws musicians and festival fans through events like Apple Butterfest and the Rhythm on the River concert series. The town's main music anchor is Poe Road Music Sanctuary. The outdoor concert venue, tucked into the cornfields of Wood County, received a conditional use permit from the Grand Rapids Zoning Board of Appeals to continue booking music acts. Owner Wayne Barger built the stage shortly after purchasing the property in 2003. The sanctuary features a main stage, camping space for up to 400, and a giant fire pit, hosting music festivals throughout spring, summer, and fall, just one mile from the Maumee River and Mary Jane Thurston State Park. Barger has secured 501(c)(3) status for the operation. Past performers have included acts like The Funk Factory, ekoostik hookah, and Top Scrub.
