The Earl and Rachel Smith Strand Theatre began as an Art Deco movie house on Marietta Square in 1935, was restored, and now hosts classic films, concerts, and stage productions. The theatre closed in 1976 and reopened in 2008 after years of community fundraising. It holds 531 seats. As a nonprofit arts organization, the Strand programs live theatre, classic movies, concerts, comedy, and other special events. Recent concert bookings have spanned jazz tributes, 80s pop shows, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd tribute acts, and folk-rock productions. The auditorium can host live music Tuesday through Sunday, while the upstairs bar runs music Friday and Saturday nights for 21+ crowds. The venue also includes a piano bar, cocktail lounge, and a rooftop terrace. Since 1935, the Strand has become a landmark on Marietta Square, now hosting over 200 events annually. For Cobb County residents, it offers concerts and shows without the traffic and parking demands of going into Atlanta.
