Princeton's live-music options are modest but consistent. The anchor is Festival 56, a summer theater festival founded in 2003 that produces Broadway productions and free Shakespeare in the park. It operates as a professional non-equity summer theater at 316 S. Main St., and its musical productions make it the closest thing Princeton has to a dedicated live-music venue. In the off-season, Festival 56 moves to the Grace Theater for events including chamber music concerts, such as Trio Cantabile performing works by Brahms and pieces for violin and piano. Beyond Festival 56, Princeton runs a free Summer Street Concert Series on South Main Street, between Peru and Marion streets, with live music and food trucks. Shows run from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The city's live-music footprint is small, with Festival 56 driving most of the programmed performance activity year-round.
