Tolono
Tolono is a bedroom community for Champaign, about 9 miles north, and its live-music story is essentially one venue: Loose Cobra. Located at 113 E Main St in downtown Tolono, the bar is owned and curated by Matt Talbott, frontman of HUM, and shares ownership with the nearby Earth Analog recording studio. Its genres lean toward alt-country, metal, and rock, and cover bands are generally not booked. On show weekends, the dart area becomes a stage for original touring artists. Past acts have included Jake McKelvie, Unwed Sailor, and Season To Risk. Outdoor shows in the parking lot can accommodate crowds up to 500. The second Sunday of each month brings an open mic from 2 to 6 PM. The small-town location belies a consistent booking of touring bands that draw from across the Champaign-Urbana region.
