Downtown Champaign

Downtown Champaign holds one of Central Illinois's densest clusters of live-music rooms, spread across a compact stretch centered on Neil Street and Main. The Virginia Theatre is a restored 1921 movie palace, intimate enough to feel personal yet large enough to have hosted artists like Ben Folds, Elvis Costello, and Neko Case. The Blind Pig Brewpub carries on a tradition going back to the 1990s, when the original Blind Pig opened as a craft beer bar and began brewing its own beer in 2008; the current brewpub location opened in July 2025 at 301 N. Neil St. Neil St. Blues, a soul food restaurant, programs jazz, blues, and R&B alongside karaoke nights. Barrelhouse 34 is a craft beer and spirits bar that hosts live music events alongside trivia nights and themed gatherings. Pour Bros. Craft Taproom features live music on the patio or indoors, paired with a wall of Illinois and national craft beers and ciders. Beyond the fixed venues, downtown Champaign serves as the backdrop for Friday Night Live, a free street-side performance series covering rock, folk, bluegrass, jazz, R&B, funk, hip-hop, country, indie, and blues.
