Signal Mountain
Signal Mountain is a quiet residential suburb above Chattanooga with a modest but well-established live-music tradition centered almost entirely on one institution. The Mountain Opry holds bluegrass, gospel, and Americana shows at the Bachman Community Center on the fourth Saturday of every month. The evening begins at 6 p.m., with an open stage starting at 8 p.m. Pickers of all ages are welcome to join jamming sessions in dedicated side rooms. Admission is free, with a $5 donation at the door appreciated, and the show is open to all ages. The format is informal and community-rooted: local bluegrass bands take the stage and play 30-minute sets. The New York Times has described it as "the place to be on Friday nights" for fans of "knee-slapping bluegrass and old time mountain music." The Lovell Sisters made their public debut at the Mountain Opry in 2004, giving a sense of the kind of grassroots talent it has long drawn.
