Merrillville sits in Northwest Indiana about 45 minutes from Chicago, in the broader region that draws on venues like Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana for larger touring acts. For smaller-room live music, the two main spots are an American bar-and-grill and a cigar lounge, both on 81st Avenue. Catch Table & Tap, formerly Catch 22 Bar & Grill, operates out of a renovated space at 500 E 81st Ave with a menu of upscale American pub fare. Live music is played by musicians in the evening, and weekends regularly feature a band. The outdoor patio is also used for live performances during warmer months. Karma Cigar Bar occupies a 3,200-square-foot lounge in Merrillville just west of I-65. It carries a walk-in humidor with over 1,800 cigars and pairs that with a full bar and live events. The venue hosts monthly live music and social events, and Windy City Dueling Pianos performs there regularly, with shows typically scheduled for Friday or Saturday evenings. Live jazz is also planned for the space.
