Young is a contralto — the same rare, low, dark-toned voice Hyman sang with. Not an impersonation: she sings the songbook in the range it was written for, backed by her working band, Soul Society™ — every arrangement live, nothing on tape. City Winery brought her tribute back three years running, and her show sold out three nights at the Anacostia Playhouse. Now she's taking it beyond the capital, city by city.
