Dayton, Kentucky, a small river city just across from Cincinnati, has a modest but distinctive live-music footprint anchored by The Lodge KY. The Lodge occupies the Henry Barnes Lodge at 231 6th Avenue, a 9,000-square-foot space built in 1922, with two theaters with balconies and a basement. The building is a remodeled Masonic Temple, converted after owner Scott Beseler purchased it in 2011. It functions as a recording studio (analog and digital), rehearsal space, photography studio, and event space that supports artists and touring musicians. Notable names to have recorded there include Walk The Moon, Bootsy Collins, and Arlo McKinley, and it has also become an under-the-radar live music venue, hosting shows by artists like Erika Wennerstrom of Heartless Bastards and James Leg of Black Diamond Heavies. Beyond live music, The Lodge hosts film screenings, figure drawing classes, and art shows. For the area, it serves as an arts community hub as much as a concert venue.
