Evanston
A neighborhood in Cincinnati
Dana Gardens, at 1832 Dana Ave, is a dive bar housed in an 1880s-era fire station that has operated under the same name since 1935, just off Xavier University's campus. The bar offers live music alongside a full bar and outdoor seating. Self-described as "An Irish Possession, A Xavier Tradition," it draws a reliably college-heavy crowd and functions as Evanston's one dedicated music venue. Beyond Dana Gardens, Evanston's live-music life is mostly outdoor and community-driven. The Festival of Neighbors series grew out of a 2021 event in Evanston Park, founded by residents of the Evanston and East Walnut Hills communities. The festivals feature a lineup spanning Gospel, Contemporary, R&B/Urban, and Classical music. Evanston also has a deep musical heritage: King Records, a label based here, was Cincinnati's first racially integrated company, and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra has performed in the neighborhood in tribute to that legacy.
