Flint

Flint anchors its live-music identity with three distinctly different rooms. The FIM Capitol Theatre, built in 1928 and designed by John Eberson as an atmospheric theater meant to resemble a Roman garden, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985 and reopened in 2017 after a decades-long closure. It programs a wide range of content, including popular and classical music, comedy, film screenings, dance, spoken word, and theater. Recent bookings have included Collective Soul, Rodney Atkins, and Little River Band. Flint Local 432 is a non-profit, all-ages, substance-free venue in downtown Flint, its name a nod to the area's autoworker union history, founded in the mid-1980s to give local and national bands a music-focused place to play. It has hosted acts ranging from Black Flag and Fugazi to My Chemical Romance, Coheed and Cambria, and Avenged Sevenfold, and gave early stages to Flint bands Chiodos and The Swellers. The Machine Shop Concert Lounge, located at 3539 S. Dort Hwy., has been booking rock, metal, and outlaw country since 2002. Recent bills have included Ugly Kid Joe, Framing Hanley, and Pantera and Clutch tribute acts.
