Muskegon

Muskegon sits on Lake Michigan about 40 miles west of Grand Rapids, and its live-music options range from a grand historic theater to a lakeside bar with bands on the water. The anchor is the Frauenthal Center for the Performing Arts, located in downtown Muskegon and consisting of the Frauenthal Theater and additional performance spaces in the Hilt Building. The Center's flagship is the 1,726-seat Frauenthal Theater, a fully restored historic motion picture palace that originally opened in September 1930. Programming includes live music, theater, dance, film, and comedy with local and touring artists, and the West Michigan Symphony Orchestra hosts its season there. For outdoor music, the Deck offers live music and warm summer breezes at its lakeside location on Beach Street. Cafe Tamaki is a veteran-owned business that, per its own description, serves the community with craft drinks, a comfy atmosphere, and fine arts events, including DJ nights and genre-specific music events. Unruly Brewing Company rounds out the list as a local brewery with live music on the schedule.
