Wausau
The Grand Theater, built in 1899 as an opera house, anchors Wausau's live-music calendar and has hosted acts including Ben Folds, Little River Band, and Leonid & Friends. The scene ranges from touring shows at The Grand Theater to local bands playing at pubs along Third Street. Faraway Place opened on Third Street in the reimagined former Malarkey's Pub space, staying true to the founding principles of live music and community. Live music runs Wednesdays through Saturdays, with Thursdays reserved for open mic. Most shows are free, though the venue also experiments with ticketed events. Intermission, at 325 North Fourth Street, offers free live music five nights a week, featuring talent from across the Midwest. The bar books blues, folk, jam band, and rock, with a capacity of around 100.
