Anderson

Anderson, about 35 miles northeast of Indianapolis, carries most of its live-music weight through a clear range of scale: a grand historic theater, a brewpub inside a bowling alley, and a craft brewery rounding out the options. The Paramount Theatre Centre & Ballroom is a historic movie palace on Meridian Street, opened in 1929 as part of the Paramount Pictures-owned Publix chain. Designed by theater architect John Eberson, it is one of only twelve atmospheric theaters still standing in the United States and Canada, with a ceiling styled to resemble an open, star-filled sky. The theater seats roughly 1,445 people and carries a packed concert calendar, with recent bookings including Steve Earle and Marshall Charloff & The Purple Xperience. Events range from celebrated musicians to silent films accompanied by the venue's historic Page theatre organ. Blaze Brew Pub, located inside Championship Lanes bowling alley, is a full bar and restaurant. It features live music every Saturday. T.M. Nortons Brewing Company adds a third spot for live music on the craft-beer side of town.
