Garfield Park
A neighborhood in Indianapolis
Garfield Park is the oldest city park in Indianapolis, and its live-music activity is anchored by the park itself and a growing cluster of small venues along its edges. The MacAllister Amphitheater has hosted acts including Billy Strings, Father John Misty, The Revivalists, and Greensky Bluegrass for summer concerts that pair national touring acts with food trucks and a scenic park setting. The amphitheater also serves as the stage for the annual Garfield Park Art and Music Festival, which features local musicians and bands of diverse genres performing original music. The biggest recent development is CAMi (Contemporary Art Museum of Indianapolis). The newly renovated 40,000-square-foot building represents a decade-long evolution of the campus, formerly known as Tube Factory. The Levitt VIBE Indianapolis Music Series runs monthly, on the first or second Sunday from April through November, outdoors in CAMi's Terri Sisson Park greenspace and amphitheater. The series spans indie rock, Latin, folk, jazz, ambient, soul, and traditional global music, with past performers including Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Girl in a Coma, and Mariachi Band Zelaya. The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra also brings free classical music to Garfield Park through its Symphony in the Parks program. Indy Type Shop, a bookstore and gift shop doubling as a live-music venue at 2621 Shelby St., rounds out the neighborhood's smaller, more intimate options.
