Swisher
Swisher is a small Johnson County town of under a thousand people, roughly ten minutes from both Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. Most of the area's live entertainment is found a short drive away in those two cities, but Swisher has one genuine music destination of its own. Cedar Ridge Winery and Distillery was opened in 2005 by Jeff Quint, making it the first licensed distillery in Iowa since Prohibition. Set amid rolling cornfields, it draws visitors for tours, tastings, and casual dining including brick-oven wood-fired pizzas. Music is a regular part of the calendar: live music generally plays on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons. The bookings lean toward local and regional acts. Recent performers have included acoustic pop from Iowa City-based Justin Goodchild and cover-band Dogs on Skis, who built their following playing classic rock around the Iowa City and Cedar Rapids area. Cedar Ridge also runs a larger concert series: the Between the Barrels series has brought acts into its barrel sheds for ticketed evening shows.
