North Memphis

Grind City Amp is a 4,500-seat, open-air venue at Grind City Brewing, on Waterworks Avenue in the Uptown neighborhood north of downtown Memphis. The brewery, opened in fall 2020, sits on 4.6 acres with a 10,000-square-foot taproom and beer garden, and has been a linchpin in the redevelopment of the Uptown area. Grind City's earlier outdoor stage hosted events including the Grind City Music Festival, performances by Primus, and Fourth of July celebrations before the permanent amphitheater was built. The Amp launched in April 2026 with Alabama Shakes headlining its first concert, followed by a free grand opening festival. That opening festival featured MonoNeon, Memphis-born bluesman Eric Gales, Cedric Burnside, and several local acts. The venue was built specifically to address a longstanding gap: national tours playing Little Rock, Huntsville, Birmingham, and New Orleans while bypassing Memphis. Current plans call for 12 to 15 major concerts and comedy shows during its first year, with plans to expand later. Barbian has said the venue will incorporate Memphis elements into every show, whether through local artists, brewery offerings, or community events.
