Downtown

Downtown Memphis anchors the city's more formal end of the live-music spectrum, with Beale Street running through its core and a mix of ticketed venues and open-air spots spread across the neighborhood. The Orpheum Theatre, at risk of demolition in the 1970s, became a rallying point for revitalizing Downtown and Beale Street; today it is a beloved, iconic venue where performers including Bob Dylan and Patti LaBelle have played. The Halloran Centre for Performing Arts & Education, which opened in September 2015 as a home for the Orpheum Theatre Group's growing programs, hosts year-round concerts, theatre performances, family programs, and multicultural events. Its auditorium is equipped with the Meyer Constellation Sound System, creating one of the most advanced listening experiences in Memphis. Memphis Riverboats runs sightseeing, dinner, and themed cruises from March through October, with the signature dinner cruise featuring Memphis-style pulled pork and live music on the Mississippi. The dinner cruise specifically features live blues and jazz entertainment. The Peabody Hotel Rooftop draws spring and summer Thursday crowds with some of the Mid-South's best music.
