Youngstown
Youngstown anchors its live-music calendar around three large venues and fills in the edges with smaller, character-driven rooms. Covelli Centre holds up to 7,000 for concerts and is the city's premier sports and entertainment facility, located midway between Cleveland and Pittsburgh. It opened in 2005 with a concert by 3 Doors Down and has since hosted Elton John, Tim McGraw, Motley Crue, Carrie Underwood, and Lynyrd Skynyrd, with touring country and rock acts filling its current schedule. Edward W. Powers Auditorium opened in 1931 as the Warner Theatre and is now a 2,300-seat theater equipped for touring performances and local productions. The Youngstown Symphony Orchestra has performed there since 1969. Recent bookings include 38 Special. The Youngstown Foundation Amphitheatre sits within the city's 20-acre Wean Park and draws national acts for outdoor summer shows, including Joe Bonamassa and Charley Crockett. The Wickyards, on Wick Avenue near Youngstown State University, occupies a former funeral home and serves the local and original-music end of the market.
