City Winery Pittsburgh presents Avery*Sunshine live on Sunday, September 20th! Born Denise White in Chester, Pennsylvania, Avery*Sunshine is a singer, pianist, songwriter, and producer whose roots are firmly grounded in the church. A proud alumna of Spelman College, where she studied classical piano performance alongside choral conducting, orchestration, voice, and philosophy, she went on to serve as choral director for the Atlanta revival of Dreamgirls alongside Tony Award-winning Jennifer Holliday before establishing herself as one of soul music’s most compelling independent voices.

Lyfe Jennings (born Chester Jermaine Jennings on June 3, 1978) is an American R&B singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist from Toledo, Ohio, known for his gritty, soulful voice and raw storytelling. After serving 10 years in prison for arson as a teenager, he released his debut album, Lyfe 268-192 (2004), featuring hit singles "Must Be Nice" and "Stick Up Kid". Early Life & Prison: Born to a working-class family, he started singing in a church choir and later formed a group called The Dotsons. At 14, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison for a firebombing incident. Musical Style: Often called a "socially minded R&B singer," his music incorporates his own life experiences, blending soul, gospel, and hip-hop, often featuring guitar, bass, and piano. Career Highlights: His debut album Lyfe 268-192 is titled after his prison inmate number. Following its success, he released The Phoenix (2006), which was certified Gold, and Lyfe Change (2008).
