East Allegheny

East Allegheny, also known as Deutschtown, sits on Pittsburgh's North Side and carries two music venues that represent very different ends of the live-music spectrum. Park House, at 403 East Ohio Street, traces its roots to 1933 and was issued one of the first liquor licenses in Pennsylvania after Prohibition ended. It closed in 2020 and only reopened in late 2025 after a several-year hiatus. The bar puts on live music every weekend and several times during the week, with admission free and a strong lean toward bluegrass. The Government Center, a record store first, has become a welcoming space for musicians, both touring and local, to perform at a venue with a DIY feel. Located at 715 East Street, it holds roughly 75 people and programs live jazz, punk, rock, hip-hop, folk, indie, and electronic, in addition to DJ nights and trivia. Most shows come through direct inquiries from bands and managers, and all genres are welcome as long as, in the booker's words, "it's cool." Local music fans can also look out for the annual summertime Northside Music Festival.
