Millvale
Mr. Smalls Theatre anchors Millvale's live-music identity. The building began as St. Ann's Catholic Church in 1924, and owners Mike Speranzo and Liz Berlin converted it into a venue in 2002. Berlin is a longtime member of Rusted Root, the Pittsburgh-rooted worldbeat rock band. The 800-capacity main Theatre features 40-foot ceilings, marble floors, and custom acoustic reinforcements, while The Funhouse, a repurposed skatepark-turned-music-venue, seats around 175 for more intimate shows. The venue hosts several national touring acts each year alongside local and regional bookings. Double L, INC is a dive bar on Grant Avenue known for its beer selection and friendly atmosphere, with events including karaoke nights and live music. The bar has been part of the Millvale community since the 1940s. Both venues participate in the broader borough scene: since 2017, the annual Millvale Music Festival has drawn crowds to the borough for live bands, comedy shows, and spoken word. The festival spreads across more than 30 stages, with over 300 musical acts, using bars, breweries, and outdoor spaces throughout Millvale's walkable streets.
