Polish Hill
Polish Hill's live-music scene runs on two dive bars: Gooski's and Rock Room, both longtime contenders for best dive bar in Pittsburgh. Gooski's, at 3117 Brereton St, is a punk- and rock-oriented neighborhood bar and venue with a focus on local bands playing rock and roll to punk, with occasional nationally known acts. It's a longtime staple of punk rockers in search of cheap live music, with a cover charge kicking in when bands take the back room. Live bands share the space with pool tables and a well-regarded jukebox. Around the corner, Rock Room offers similar attractions on a smaller scale: a cozy back room for underground bands, dive-bar grit, and cheap drinks. The 120-capacity room books across punk, emo, hardcore, doom metal, death metal, DIY indie, and new wave club nights. Fans of hardcore music can also visit in August for Skull Fest, a three-day festival spread across Polish Hill and Lawrenceville.
