Midtown Rock Island
Midtown Rock Island supports two distinct music spots that reflect the neighborhood's range. Kavanaugh's Hilltop Bar & Grill is a long-running watering hole on 30th Street, in the Kavanaugh family since 1984, offering live music alongside its American menu and covered patio. Wednesday nights bring an open-mic blues jam at 8 p.m., and the bar pulls in bands for larger occasions as well. Wake Brewing, on 5th Avenue, blends bold craft beers with a doom-metal chaser, functioning as part taproom, part community hangout, and part-time music venue. Known for its doom-metal-inspired ethos, Wake has hosted parking-lot concerts featuring local and out-of-area acts representing a full spectrum of live metal. Past bookings have included Elder, Ruby the Hatchet, and Escuela Grind. Beyond concerts, Wake runs weekly Wax On Wednesdays vinyl nights and hosts live wrestling and pop-up markets throughout the year.
