St. Donatus
St. Donatus has a population of 120, and is considered a Luxembourg village where the Gehlen Barn is the sole live-music destination. Built in 1839 and recognized as one of the oldest barns in Iowa, the barn has been renovated into a microbrewery and event space now housing Beer in the Barn Brewery. The house and barn are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The barn and its outdoor pavilion host both local and traveling musicians, with stone walls that shape the acoustics inside and a loft for additional viewing. Live music runs at least once per weekend, usually on Sundays. Recent bookings have included acts like Marques Morel, Pennyroyal, Kristina Marie Castañeda, and Barefoot & Sunshine, among others, typically taking the stage Sunday afternoons at 2 PM. Each September, the barn anchors the Luxembourg Oktoberfest, drawing live music alongside house-brewed beer and Luxembourg-inspired food.
