St. Joseph
The Berrien Artist Guild purchased the historic Williams Bros. Paper Box Mfg. building in 1995 and converted it into the Box Factory for the Arts, St. Joseph's most program-rich music spot. The 55,000-square-foot space houses more than 40 visual artists, writers, and musicians, and offers live music performances alongside galleries, studios, and theater under one roof. Weekly Wednesday Open Mic nights on the main stage draw acoustic performers and poets, while Saturday night concerts feature regional acts across a range of styles. The John E. N. Howard Bandshell sits in downtown St. Joseph along the St. Joseph River at the corner of Lake Boulevard and Port Street. The St. Joseph Municipal Band is one of only three tax-supported municipal bands in Michigan, backed by a millage voters approved in 1936. The bandshell anchors multiple free summer series: Wednesday Brown Bag concerts run at noon, and Friday Night concerts cover jazz, big band, and classic hits, all free and overlooking the St. Joseph River. Silver Harbor Brewing Company rounds out the city's live-music options, appearing regularly among the area's top spots for live music nights.
