A city in the St. Louis area
Alton punches above its size for live music, partly because its Mississippi riverfront setting draws both crowds and touring acts. The Alton Amphitheater is a 4,000-seat outdoor venue on the downtown riverfront that hosts concerts, festivals, fairs, and outdoor movie events through a spring-to-fall season. The Alton Jazz & Wine Festival returns to the amphitheater in August 2026. At the bar end of the spectrum, Fast Eddie's Bon Air, open since 1921, is nationally known for live music, cold beer, and cheap eats. The Conservatory on East Broadway books alternative live music in a room with mellow brick walls and casual indoor and outdoor seating. Bubby & Sissy's, Alton's LGBTQ+ bar since 2001, runs drag shows, drag brunches, and a dance-til-late program. It also hosts karaoke on Thursdays and DJ-driven dancing throughout the week. Away from the venues, Alton Main Street books 22 bands across its 2026 season, including nine weeks of live acts at the outdoor Night Market on Broadway every Thursday in June and July.
