Maryland Heights punches well above its weight as a live-music destination, anchored by two of the region's largest outdoor venues. Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre is a 20,000-capacity outdoor venue that runs a summer concert schedule drawing some of the biggest touring acts in the world. It opened in June 1991 and is owned and operated by Live Nation. A short distance away, Saint Louis Music Park takes shape each spring when the outdoor rink at the Centene Community Ice Center is transformed into a concert venue seating 4,500. Past performers have included Alicia Keys, Jack White, and The Avett Brothers. For a smaller-scale night out, Backstreet Jazz & Blues Club at Westport Plaza is open Thursday through Saturday and hosts blues and jazz performances as well as jam sessions. The club has a stage, dance floor, and full sound and lighting setup. Westport Social, also in the Westport Plaza complex, rounds out the area's live-music options alongside the plaza's other entertainment venues.
