Red Wing
Red Wing Barrel House claims to be the first established bar in Minnesota, dating to 1886. Located at 223 Main Street, it pairs hand-crafted food with live music every Friday and Saturday night. Shows are typically no-cover and start around 7 or 8 PM. Recent bookings have ranged from blues artist James Mudkat Grant to multi-band nights and Celtic act Bonnie Drunken Lads, giving the room a varied but unpretentious character. The bar is 21-and-over. Beyond the Barrel House, the annual Big Turn Music Fest takes over downtown Red Wing each February and has drawn acts like Dessa and Jeremy Messersmith. Red Wing Arts runs a monthly acoustic series on the first Thursday of each month at its Depot Gallery. Red Wing is a small river city, and its live-music calendar reflects that: consistent weekend programming at the Barrel House is the most reliable option for visitors looking for a show any given Friday or Saturday.
