Downtown Springfield
Downtown Springfield's live-music calendar spans a wide range of scales. The Bank of Springfield Center is a 7,700-seat multipurpose arena that has long served as a hub for live entertainment, hosting chart-topping concerts since opening in 1979. On a more intimate level, the Hoogland Center for the Arts, at 420 South Sixth Street, houses three theaters and five smaller performance and exhibit spaces; it is home to theatre, ballet, choral music, and orchestral music, with four performance spaces ranging from 100 to 450 capacity. Each summer, the Levitt AMP Springfield series runs free Thursday-night concerts on the Y Block at 4th and Jackson, adjacent to the Illinois Governor's Mansion, with a different genre each week. Recent lineups have included Americana, jazz, bluegrass, funk, zydeco, blues, and Afro-Caribbean acts. Obed & Isaac's Microbrewery on South Sixth Street runs a Music in the Beer Garden series. Dumb Records at 418 E. Monroe also hosts live shows. Boone's on West Edwards Street books live bands as well.
